Ok first off the case is very rugged/durable as stated. And i actually really like the bulk it added due to my big hands lol...its a total of 3 pieces not counting belt clip...the back/bottom and front/top piece are made of plastic the top piece has a built in screen protector that fit across ur screen, tho its not 100% tight and does let dust/lint/ect in a bit thru the only opening on the top under the ear piece so i would deffinantly still recommend having a screen protector on under it ...and just to note the screen touch/response is not delayd due to the built in screen protecter....the 2 pieces clip together pretty tight...then the 3rd piece is silicone tho feels a bit like thin rubber wraps around the hole case ( first 2 pieces )...it plugs aux and charger port fairly well....covers volume rocker and power button as well and it sits up nicely so actually is easier to locate vol/power without looking...now with all that said i have a few complaints...i feel the silicone/rubber material is not snug enough around the case so i find myself having to fix it back sometimes after removing it from my pocket or removing it from the belt clip....also i find myself always blowing lent off the silicone which annoys me.....and finally the built in scren protecter not being more snug allowing dirt in bugs me so i have to take it apart to blow it out ....so due to those things and id like to get a case that fits the extended battery i did order the seidio convert(rugged) case ...but everyone is diff so those things may not bug u...but overall it is a great case and i do recommend it if ur looking for ruggedness

Pros: Very rugged
Bulkier case feels great in bigger hands
Plugs ports protecting from dust/lint/ect
Case off sets from camera protecting it
Kick stand still accessable
Durable silicone, should not rip/tear easily

Cons: Silicone needs to be tighter fit
Silicone attracts lint
Silicone makes it slighltly difficult sliding in/out of pocket

i hope i helped alittle in ur search for a case and i will be doing a review on the Seidio convert extended case soon too, feel free to check it out as well because Seidio is another good company
I bought my wife an Otterbox for her Iphone and it is amazing. She has dropped the phone several times and it's withstood everything. It fit nice and snug and looked like it belong with the phone. A few month's later I decided to buy myself an HTC Thunderbolt. I love the phone (except for the battery life), but told myself I'd wait until the Otterbox came out for it before I protected it. The time finally came and I ordered it from Amazon. Now on to the review...

The Otterbox makes the phone MUCH more bulky, which is to be expected since the Thunderbolt was already a beast of a phone. But the real downside to it is the screen on the case. It's aweful. I don't know what Otterbox was thinking, but the screen is not snug at all, leaving a space between the protective film and the Thunderbolt's screen. What this does is allow dirt to get inside to where you have to take the Otterbox off DAILY in order to clean the screen. Even worse, it severely limits my typing speed as I'm no longer touching the screen without a small lag as the protective film pops up and down. This causes my texting to take longer and it's just annoying. I understand the Thunderbolt's screen is large and it would be hard to manufacture the correct protective screen, but by looking at the Otterbox myself, I can already think of several ways this could have been improved.

One other annoyance for me is the kickstand. I use the kickstand daily while I'm at work. The case makes the phone extra bulky in the back which actually limits the kickstand's ability to withstand small bumps. If I move my headphones and the phone slightly moves it now falls over. All in all, I give the Otterbox a 3 out of 5, because it does do its job in protecting the phone, but the screen protector almost kills it for me. I wish I could recommend another case, but this is the best one for the Thunderbolt in my opinion. It will have to do.
First let me address the size issue. I was worried from what others said that this was going to be huge. After installing it on my phone, I don't agree. To get maximum protection in the smallest size is what Otterbox did. It only adds millimeters to an already large phone. It's not that Otterbox made a small phone become huge. Second, the outer case is rubber and does attract lint, but not as bad as it could. This type of rubber is not as magnetic as others. I'm OCD (controlable) and the small amount of lint that does get on my phone from my pocket is okay. It's not bad and will fall off if kept outside the pocket. Use the belt clip that comes with it and there will not be a problem. I thought about just getting a hard case, but the only way to get true protection is to have some rubber on the case so it might as well be high quality. Third, I appreciate the screen protector but wonder if it would be better without it. I found out that I have to touch the screen a little harder to get a response. Others, I've read, have gotten used to this quickly. I haven't used my phone much, and have also gotten used to it some. My final verdict on this issue is not final. If it bothers me in the future, I will cut it out and use a different one. If you already have experience with built-in screen protectors then you'll probably be satisfied with this one. It doesn't mess the screen image up either. I'm 100% satisfied with the size, protection and quality. The screen protector is the only thing I'm not decided on yet. It's not bad, just not as smooth as without it in my opinion.
My husband and I both bought this case for our HTC Thunderbolts and we have had them for a few weeks. The case fits the HTC Thunderbolt great. I feel I could throw my phone across the room and nothing would happen to it (I have not done this, but it feels like it could handle it). The phone is definately well protected.

The downsides I have found on this case have been that you need to press harder for the power button and the touch screen. These are not huge issues but it is taking some getting use to. Also my husband has issues opening the pieces for the charger and headphones since he does not have fingernails.
Alright so the case is two parts: an inner hard plastic and an outer hard plastic. The case is custom fit to accommodate the kickstand in the back and has flaps for power cord and headphone cord.
The plastic screen is actually pretty good too. It really does not diminish sensitivity.
Overall it adds a bit of thickness to the package, but I can say having dropped my phone twice now in the last couple weeks that it's absolutely a tank. Also, having large hands, the new case makes it easier to hold the phone while typing.
The only "Con" to the phone case is that it takes a way from the "stylishness" of the phone turning from a sleek wonder to a bit of a rubber in-cased somewhat military looking piece. That being said, I really think this a must buy because the phone is pretty fragile and would likely break if dropped.

Also, this phone is bad-ass. I highly recommend the 4G-LTE phones. Incredibly fast.
Just received the OtterBox Defender case for my Thunderolt and wanted to share my initial review to help you decide if this case is for you.

Pros: OtterBox has done it again (FINALLY) for the HTC Thunderbolt.
-The case is durable
-Comes with a screen protector (built-in so you don't have to buy one)
-Fits very well
-Price (My previous case was @$30 and had no screen protector)
-OtterBox customer service is great

Cons: If you thought the Thunderbolt was already on the large size, wait until you put this case on it.
-Phone increases in size dramatically
-If you want headphones plugged in you have to leave the headphone flap open
-The headphone flap is a little hard to get open (Charger flap is much better)

Overall I am a fan of the OtterBox. I don't mind the size of the phone with the case. If you don't want the phone to increase in size and protection, stay away. A big plus is the built-in screen protector. I had previously installed the invisible shield on the phone but was not happy with the feel. I removed the invisible shield and now using the OtterBox screen protector and it feels much better. If you are familiar with the iPhone Defender series you will be right at home.
I have owned several phones and whenever possible, purchased the Otterbox for it. I have always liked this product, in fact I have liked it so much that I won't typically buy the phone until there is an Otterbox to go with it. The Thunderbolt was different because the expected date for the Otterbox was unknown. I have had the Otterbox for my Thunderbolt for about 6 months now, and I can't stand it. There is a HUGE gap between the plastic window and the actual phone screen, such that there are times if I don't remember to press HARD, nothing is registered on the phone. It is also difficult to get some of the keys on the edge of the screen because now the plastic is reinforced by the body of the Otterbox. makes for lots of corrections, when texting should be something that is easy. If you use something like Swype, then it is almost impossible because those don't typically regiser the first time. The rubber protective cover always seems to become separated and I spend my spare time putting it back on, like it is supposed to be. The cover also separates any time the cover to the power port is opened for recharging or connecting to data cable. Last quirk and the one that bothers me the most is that when you are trying to put the phone back into the carrier, the rubber cover separates and prevents you from snapping the latch on the Otterbox plastic cover to the carrier. If you are busy or it is noisy and you do not hear or feel the click, your phone will be on the ground before you know cause it has fallen out. Don't know about you, but it was not my intent to test the Otterbox and its ability to prevent damage to the phone due to drops, because of its inability to actually hold the phone in its carrier. Of all the Otterboxes I have owned, this is the wrost for design and actual functionality. Add to this the fact that you have to keep putting the thing together and it becomes a NUISANCE. I guess it is better than nothing and if there was something comparable, then I would have thrown the Otterbox away long ago.
I'm a little disappointed by this version of the case. I'd previously owned one for the iPhone and was totally satisfied. This one, not so much. The outside edges of the rubber cover don't seem to want to stay in place. Also, sometimes the cover bunches up and doesn't want to go into the holster.
great case for anyone in construction. it does make the phone a little bulky but thats the price or protection. the clip makes it even bigger. but it is very sturdy and always holds.
I bought this case about two months ago and am very pleased with my order the only negative of the case is that dust does gather behind the screen protecter however it is easy enough to remove by simply blowing it out or disasembling the case. and the reviewers saying that the case wouldn't go back together properly must have gotten a bad case because i have taken it apart at least 5 times with no problem. also have dropped the phone from table height twice and nothing happened to the case or the phone. definatly worth the money.
I have been using OtterBox cases, primarily Defender series, on several different phones for a while now. The quality seems to be on a steady decline. This will likely be my last unless I hear of a turn-around.

The outer rubber case fits the interior plastic case very poorly. Other than that, I have no doubt that it would protect the device very well, but the overall quality and fit and feel was unacceptable for me as a result.
The Otter Box defender is a great case for impact and dropping accidents. The problem I have is the holster. When I try to clip it in, the clip tension is so forceful it splits the two piece hard plastic case apart. When this happens the clip will not engage properly.
I went for the Otter Box case because it looked to be the slimmest silicone-wrapped case available for the Thunderbolt, but after putting it on my phone, I realized it was much bigger than I thought. However, the bulk does add some extra grip to an already large and heavy phone. The plastic belt clip looks like it could hold a laptop when you don't have the phone clipped in to it, and with the phone clipped in, it looks like you're walking around with a tablet strapped to your belt. I do like the multiple mount options for the belt clip and the heavy duty clip on the back that can do a full 360 rotate. It also has a lock feature that if you snag your phone on something, the clip will spring a certain distance back, then lock so you don't have to worry about breaking it.

You can charge the phone while it is in the belt clip, but when using dash-mounted car holders, it becomes a little difficult with the bulky nature of the silicone case. The charger cover is easy to open and close, but the headphone jack cover is a little more difficult to get open. Luckily, the Thunderbolt allows for stereo bluetooth headphones, so you may not need to use the jack that often.

I like that it has a built-in screen guard, but I would recommend leaving or putting on a regular screen guard before putting it in the Otter Box. Dust and dirt can get behind the case's guard and scratch your screen. The two layers of screen protection does mess a little with the touch screen, but not much (some buttons are a little slower to respond but can be corrected with a screen calibration).

This is a very durable case and well worth the money spent on it. I've been looking for a case for this phone since I bought it in April and this is the first one I've found that I really like despite the size.
If you like to travel light, better consider another option. May be rugged if you want to go camping, but day-to-day, like carrying a brick around...won't fit in pocket...heavy & bulky, even worse with "clip on" housing... if you don't carry a purse or briefcase routinely, you'll need to find the old butt-pack to house this "walkie-talkie" or first gen - 'transistor radio' sized case....and wear a belt because this baby will drag down the trousers...butt-pack or butt crack? Tough decision...
very rugged product. simple enough to install. makes the phone quite big and bulky but that is not a surprise if you want a heavy duty case to protect your phone.
Pros:
Protects against drops

That's about it

Cons:
The screen protector opening for the speaker is huge. It allows dirt, dust, and all kinds of stuff to get in between the screen and the screen protector. It actually encourages scratches.

Rubber guard around hard case doesn't fit right. There are so many gaps where the rubber is supposed to tuck in and this terrible design flaw makes the rubber come off just about every time I pull the phone out of my pocket.

Overall:
This case is pretty horrible. I waited what seemed like forever for Otterbox to release a case for the Thunderbolt and I was extremely disappointed. I will never buy another Otterbox case again. It's a shame too, because I have always heard good things about their products.
Product is very decent. Outside rubber shell fits very well around the phone, with very good size tolerances, I'm very pleased. The inside hard shell was just okay, it had some manufacturing issues such as rough edges on one side or very sharp edges on the other. You can't see it, but could be improved. The belt clip I never use, but it seemed good and rugged. The front clear protect had to go, it was too tick and killed the quality of display, especially since i keep the brightness low to save power. My overall score from 1 to 10 is 8.
Don't kid yourself, it's a bulky case. But I happen to be very clumsy, and I want to protect my 600 dollar investment. I've dropped my phone once since I've had it, from about 4 feet on to pavement. The phone has received no damage what so ever.
This particular product, on my phone has to be adjusted at times. However, it's protective ability is the reason why I purchased it, and it is superior. I would recommend this product for purchase to others.
This case definitely protects the phone but adds WAY too much bulk! The case also doesn't stay on well-the rubber edges don't lay right. Everyone talks about how HUGE my phone is but it really isn't it's this massive thick case! I'm definitely trading out!
Love this case. It's really durable and it is a brick and bulky but love this case I will never ever see my case breaking. Thanks amazon and otterbox for great quality and service.
I had this on my Thunderbolt and used it a lot and put it to the test a few times. Now that I have a Rezound I instantly bought another Otter Box. This case is great other than the fact that I would get a little dust or dirt under the screen protector. What I got it for was the protection from drops and it sure did an astounding job at that!
I got this case for a fellow co-worker as a Christmas gift. He kept saying that he wanted a better case for his phone. So I thought of OtterBox. Once I gave it to him, he was thrilled and used it right away. For anyone that wants a great case for their HTC Thunderbolt, should definitely get this case. It's a great investment. Once you get it, you won't ever want another case again for your phone.
hated this case.. but unfortunately my son had already thrown the package away for it. It was so bulky, made me feel like I had a huge old skool cell phone. immediately had to buy a different case as I just couldn't handle this one. It wouldn't even fit in my purse. And the screen on it made it incredibly hard to text or do games. I would never recommend this case
I read a lot of reviews before deciding on the Otter box for my HTC Thunderbolt. I wanted something study from a trustworthy brand that that's exactly what I got! The hard plastic piece that goes around the phone is hard and a bit difficult to take back off but not impossible. The soft silicone outer piece protects the phone and makes it grip surfaces so it won't slide around!

While it does make the phone super bulky, I feel safer knowing my phone is nestled safely inside.

The biggest problem out there is the plastic screen part which creates a gap which desensitized the screen and allowed dust down onto the screen. After a few weeks I figured a way around this problem! I bought clear plastic screen protectors and ripped off the flimsy otterbox part. It dramatically altered my phone making it clearer to see and more sensitive (the way it should be!)

I would absolutely get the otter box again, but I would definitely take the screen protector off and put your own shield on.

Hope you find this useful!
I received this as a gift and I love it!!!
It is a bit bulkier, but it works way better with my big hands, and the phone just feels way more secure.
I have been using this case for days now, and I have not noticed any build-up on the screen that many have reported. I also got used to the (very slight) delay from the screen protector quickly.
This case is rugged, and it looks like it can take some abuse. Fits my phone perfectly.
Another small plus to this case is the belt clip is ambidextrous (Being left-handed this is nice) you only need to put it on upside down on the left side, and the phone is still upright :)
Overall this is one of the best cases I have ever had for any of my phones, and I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a very rugged durable case.
If you need a strong and durable case to protect your HTC Thunderbolt this case is perfect for you then. This case is not small so before you go and buy this case make sure you are ok with a larger than normal case. The one thing that I don't like about it though is that the screen protector does't hug the screen well. There is a very small gap in which moisture or sand can get into and possibly ruin your screen. Overall though this case will most damage from dropping or hitting your phone (because we all know this phone isn't that great). I would recommend this case to anyone who is in the military or construction.
At otterbox.com it was 49.99 , so I knew it was cheaper on Amazon and I couldn't be happier. They exact product I was looking for at an even better price.
